A truly unique Rosenthal Bavaria porcelain plate, from the Studio Line Composition Jardinet series from the 1960s, designed by Tapio Wirkkala. Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was a multi-talented design genius, widely regarded as a leading figure in modern Finnish industrial art. Wirkkala's broad portfolio ranged from glass, furniture, and product design to sculpture, urban planning, art, graphic design, and even banknote design for the Finnish government.
He designed porcelain artworks for Rosenthal between 1956 and 1985. They were characterized by mostly organic shapes, monochromatic surfaces, and a modern expression:
